Transitional Bilingual Program

What is the Transitional Bilingual Program?

At our school, we offer a Transitional Bilingual Program, which is designed to help students who speak Spanish at home successfully learn English. In this program, students begin learning in both Spanish and English, with more support in Spanish at first to help them build a strong foundation. As their English improves, instruction gradually shifts to more English. The goal is for students to become confident and successful in English while valuing and building on their home language.

What it is not:

This is not a Dual Language program. In Dual Language, students continue to receive instruction in both English and Spanish long-term, and both languages are used equally to help students become fully bilingual and biliterate. In our Transitional Bilingual Program, the main goal is to transition students to English-only instruction over time by the fifth grade.
